Microneedling treatment in salon

Is Microneedling Right for Your Skin?

Curious about microneedling, but not quite sure what it involves?

Perhaps you’ve seen before-and-after photographs and wondered what happened between those two pictures. How many appointments were there? What did the treatment feel like? How long did the results take to develop?

Those are all sensible questions to ask before booking.

At Bourne Valley Beauty, I want you to understand what you’re considering, rather than feel you need to choose a treatment first and ask questions afterwards.

So, let’s start with the basics.

What does microneedling do?

Microneedling uses very fine needles to create tiny, controlled punctures in the skin. This encourages the skin’s natural repair response and stimulates collagen production.

It can be used to help improve the appearance of concerns such as fine lines, uneven skin texture and certain types of acne scarring.

That doesn’t mean it will completely remove every line, scar or area of uneven texture, and results will vary from person to person.

The important question is whether microneedling is an appropriate treatment for your skin and your individual concerns.

Why do microneedling results take time?

One of the most important things to understand about microneedling is that the treatment appointment and the development of results are two different things.

Your skin needs time to respond.

Some people may begin to notice changes within a few weeks, while fuller results can take several months to develop. Your skin, your starting point and the concern being treated all play a part.

Some people may also benefit from a course of treatments rather than a single appointment.

That’s why I would rather talk to you about a treatment plan and review your progress over time than promise a dramatic transformation after one visit.

It’s also worth remembering this when you look at before-and-after photographs online. A pair of pictures rarely tells you how much time passed between them, how many treatments someone had or what else formed part of their skincare routine.

What happens before microneedling treatment?

We start with a consultation.

This gives us the opportunity to talk about what you would like help with, what you currently use on your skin and what you hope to achieve.

We’ll also discuss your health, medication and anything else that could affect whether microneedling is suitable for you.

Microneedling isn’t right for everyone, and there may be times when treatment needs to be delayed or another option may be more appropriate.

You don’t need to arrive knowing your skin type or having already decided that microneedling is definitely what you need.

You can simply tell me what you’ve noticed about your skin and what you would like to improve.

That conversation is an important part of choosing the right treatment.

What should you expect after microneedling?

Your skin may look red and feel sensitive or tight after treatment. Some people also experience dryness or light peeling as the skin settles.

Recovery varies from person to person, so we’ll talk through what you can expect and the aftercare you’ll need to follow.

This may include advice about skincare, sun protection and when to restart products that could irritate freshly treated skin.

If you have a holiday, special event or something important coming up, it’s always worth mentioning it when we discuss your appointment so that we can consider the timing properly.

How many microneedling treatments might you need?

There isn’t one answer that suits everyone.

The number of treatments recommended will depend on your skin, what you would like to address and how your skin responds.

For some people, a course of treatments may be suggested, with time between appointments to allow the skin to recover and respond.

Your treatment plan should be based on your skin, rather than simply following a fixed number because that’s what someone else has done.

Is microneedling right for your skin?

Reading about a treatment is a useful starting point, but you don’t need to make the decision from a blog post or a before-and-after photograph.

Perhaps there’s something about your skin you’d like to discuss. Perhaps you’re interested in microneedling but still have questions about the treatment, recovery, results or cost.

A consultation gives us time to talk those things through.

At Bourne Valley Beauty, we’ll discuss your skin, what you’re hoping to achieve and whether microneedling is an appropriate option for you.

We’ll also explain the proposed treatment plan and aftercare before you decide whether you would like to go ahead.

You don’t need to arrive with all the answers.

That’s what the conversation is for.
